I love the smell of chicken cooking in the crockpot.
(I took a lovely picture of the hot, bubbling chicken in the crockpot. But something about the image uploader wasn’t working right this morning. Grrrr! I’ll have to leave it to your imagination for right now.)
Mmmmmm. . . It smells so good!
Except — in the morning!!!
There are some smells that belong to certain times of the day. I’m sorry – that’s just the way it is. I guess I’m a little kooky that way.
I started this crockpot (the one in the non-picture) last night so I would have yummy chicken available to make chicken and dumplings, chicken salad, and some other chicken favorites. However, I didn’t think about how the usually glorious scent of cooking chicken would affect me this morning. Eeewww!
Even though I hadn’t eaten since dinner last night, I actually lost my appetite this morning. I couldn’t even eat breakfast. And that’s unbelievable! Hmmm. . . maybe this would be a good new weight loss program. I could sell this idea and make lots of money! Right? Ah, well. It was an interesting thought.
Back to morning smells — there are good morning food smells and bad morning food smells. Like pizza. I love a good pizza. But the smell of pizza in the morning would not be appetizing. Maybe that’s why some people I know eat cold pizza in the morning – they don’t like the smell either. Of course, I can’t eat cold pizza in the morning either. Actually, I can’t eat cold pizza anytime. That’s just crazy! (I know some very strange people).
The thing is — there are some smells usually associated with morning that I love to smell any time of the day or night. Like bacon. Bacon! Bacon! Bacon! I can smell bacon just thinking about it. In fact, I can smell bacon, eat bacon, roll around in bacon all day. (Well, maybe not the rolling around in part.)
And coffee! I love the smell of fresh coffee. I don’t care what time of day it is.
But there are just some foods that belong to certain parts of the day. One of those is chicken.
IHOP Restaurant has an advertisement out right now for a new dish for breakfast — chicken and waffles. I don’t think so! No chicken for breakfast!
And no smelling chicken before lunch time. It’s just wrong!!
